Painted Faux Stone Wall

Painted Faux Stone Wall – The Victoria Shopping Centre, Harrogate, North Yorkshire For this painted faux stone wall commission I was asked by the shopping centre owners to make some of the exterior panels look like real sandstone so that they blended in with the surroundings. The faux painted panels, (which were originally a rusty red colour) are set above the fire doors and are slightly recessed from the main body of the wall. Hopefully that’s the only way you can tell that those are the areas that have been painted and the surrounding stone is actually real.   Please use the following...

Rustic Faux Stone Wall

Rustic Faux Stone Wall – East Keswick, North Yorkshire For this faux stone painting project I made the walls of this conservatory look as if they had succumbed to the ravages of time. The faux plasterwork was painted to look as if it was falling down and revealing the stonework beneath. This particular faux stone matched the buildings external stone perfectly and blended seamlessly at the edge of the conservatory. I also added some muted fresco style ivy trailing up the wall. Detailed ivy would have looked to prominent and heavy so I used a bit of artistic license to get the right effect....

Stone Blocking Paint Effects

Stone Blocking Paint Effects – Here are a few examples of some stone blocking paint effects I have done over the years.   (1) Stone Blocking Paint Effect (Swimming Pool Walls) – Dacre, North Yorkshire Another part of this swimming pool project was to create a stone blocking paint effect around the windows on the right, matching them to the real stone arches opposite. Creating a faux stone paint effect when there is also real stone in your line of sight is always a great challenge, and one that I love to take on.   (2) Faux Stone Wall – ‘The Time Machine’, Harrogate,...

Faux Stone Paint Effect Fireplace

Faux Stone Paint Effect Fireplace – Oare, Devon This faux stone paint effect fireplace was undertaken in a manor house in Devon. The house was undergoing significant renovation and part of the plan was to re-establish the splendour of this fireplace. The surround had previously been plastered smooth and painted white so I set about making it match the real stone of the surround. It was tricky faux painting work as the real stone had very little texture or patina, really it was all down to the little details and accuracy of colour.   Please use the following links to see the main...

Painted Stone Effect Column

Painted Stone Effect Column – Oare, Devon         This painted stone effect column stood at the edge of the dining room and had a lovely statue on it. Unfortunate it looked a little out of place as it was painted cream and the rest of the furniture was a rich wood. I created a faux granite paint effect so that it complimanted the slate floor and other aspects of the room. Creating this kind of painted stone effect takes many years of practice and involves not only building up several layers of glaze but also relies on some old school chemical reaction trickery.   Please use the...
