Rustic Paint Effect

Rustic Paint Effect – Oare, Devon For this paint effects project the clients wanted a rustic wall effect with a real ‘shabby chic’ feel for one of their guest bedrooms. I suggested creating an all over textured and antiqued paint finish which would not only give them that ‘shabby chic’ look but also be a work of art unto itself. The paint was actually layered on to give a slight texture and then glazed to give it that really ‘aged’ look. This effect worked wonderfully, harmonising all the other decorative features and giving them a truly unique room.   If...

Colour Wash Paint Effect for Walls

Colour wash paint effect for walls – Like all paint effects for walls the colours of a colour wash can be painted in any colour and can be as bold or as subtle as you like. (1) Colour wash walls – Heslington, York For this bedroom project the paint effect I used was a ‘three-tone cloudy colourwash’. Essentially I ‘clouded’ on three layers of paint, with each layer adding to the overall cloud effect and depth of colour. The rooms décor and furnishings were light and modern which worked beautifully with this particular finish and helped create a very calming place...

Modern Paint Effects

Modern Paint Effects – Kitchen, Harrogate, North Yorkshire This owners of this kitchen wanted a modern paint effect that was stylish and funky. With this in mind I came up with the idea of the walls having a random geometric jigsaw piece design. Each of the ‘pieces’ are painted in solid colour and used one of the 5 colours chosen for the overall scheme. Paint effects are often seen as outdated but as you can see they are extremely adaptable and if you’ve got the imagination you can create something that’s truly unique and contemporary. “Thank you once again for your...

Broken Colour Paint Effect

Broken Colour Paint Effect

Broken Colour Paint Effect – Harrogate, North Yorkshire These lounge walls were painted with a ‘broken colour’ paint effect which  I call a ‘three-tone’ striped oil glaze. Oil glaze is a term that I employ for a broken colour finish that has been ‘ragged on’. The finish here is actually very refined and subtle with a  fantastic depth of colour – a far cry from the over used and often garish rag rolling of the 90’s. The striped effect gives a classic yet modern look and can be tailored to suit any room. Narrower stripes create the illusion of height...

Faux Leather Paint Effect

Faux Leather Paint Effect

Faux Leather Paint Effect – Wike, West Yorkshire As well as a faux leather paint effect for the fireplace the clients wanted something subtle for their lounge walls. Taking inspiration from the colours in the floor and soft furnishings I came up the the idea of a ‘gradiated’ broken colour paint effect. Essentially the colour starts darker at the bottom and then gently lightens as you move up the wall. This is a very difficult but extremely effective finish which slowly creeps up on the viewer and often takes them by surprise. Another aspect to this project was the faux...

Faux Marble Paint Effect Arch

Faux Marble Paint Effect Arch, Thorner, Leeds For this faux marble painting project I was based in the lovely village of Thorner, near Leeds. The client had been looking for a decorative solution for his archway for some time and whilst talking options over with a friend my name came up. A number of years ago I had faux marbled the friends roll top bath and he had been very happy with the results – a stunning jet black with white and grey veining. Faux marble work is one of my absolute favourite specialist paint effects to do, and after an initial phone conversation, I was eager to...
