Project details - Furniture Painting Leeds

Furniture Painting Leeds

This furniture painting project was for a couple who lived in Leeds. They had bought various pieces of used furniture from reclamation yards and auction rooms and wanted to upcycle them by having them hand painted. They didn’t want them painted in just a plain block colour though, they wanted each piece to have a different colour and an aged, shabby chic finish.

This chest of drawers was originally waxed pine and required a fair amount of preparation before any painting could be done. With all the wax removed I set about filling all the dints and scratches, sealing the knots and building up the layers of primer, paint, glaze and varnish to achieve the finish you see above. Certain areas were ‘chipped back’ to reveal the original wood beneath, giving the illusion that the paint had come off naturally and become ‘distressed’ through years of use. Combining this technique with an ‘antiquing’ glaze to add a slight patina, the finished result was a stylishly old and subtly shabby chic ‘new look chest of drawers. My clients were very happy with their ‘new look’ furniture and were kind enough to write this testimonial for me;

Testimonal

‘Lee is an outstanding craftsman. The work he has done for us has been brilliant. We have commissioned Lee for further work. We would recommend him without reserve. 10/10’ Jane & Davis Sutton, Leeds

Every piece of furniture I paint is totally unique and can be tailored to compliment the room and the client’s individual taste. So instead of throwing out that old dresser, chest of drawers of wardrobe, why not call me and upcycle your furniture rather than throwing it away. Nearly any piece that’s in good repair can be transformed and I am happy to offer advice on colours and finishes if you need help. I can even do the work in my workshop, arranging pick up and delivering to allow for a stress free makeover with the minimum of disruption.
