Project details - Hand Painted Oak Kitchen Leeds

Hand Painted Oak Kitchen Leeds

For this hand painted oak kitchen project I traveled to lovely house in Bramhope, Leeds. Sometimes having your kitchen hand painted can create something very special indeed, this was one such project!

The clients had recently moved into the house and had inherited this lovely, albeit dark handmade kitchen. Though beautifully made they felt it looked a bit dated and was in need of modernising. They had found me on the web and were very interested in finding out more about the hand painted route – a fabulous and very cost effective option.

They contacted me by phone and asked a few poignant questions about durability to which I assured them they would get a top class finish which would not only be beautifully smooth but also highly durable. I explained how I would fill the ‘pips’ and also about the meticulous preparation I undertake alongside the quality practices and products I use. During my visit we discussed the process and logistics in more detail and delved into the wonderful world of colour. The client was very keen for the walls to be green, so having looked at various options we decided The Little Greene Company’s ‘Tracery 2’ would be a lovely option – a natural and earthy sage colour. For the units themselves we looked at warm ‘off whites’ to compliment the slight pinkiness in the tiles. In the end we chose another Little Greene colour, this time, ‘Clay Mid’ which I had accurately tinted in my specialist paint by Holmans Specialist Paints of Swindon.

Alongside the painting, there were to be other changes too, the large double unit on the right was removed and the wall knocked down opening up the next door snug. I thought the way the clients knocked out this section was inspired, electing not to take the whole wall out but a section, leaving a very modern and funky shape as the gap. The project took about three weeks to complete and was incredibly satisfying to do. The results speak for themselves, with the kitchen being almost unrecognisable yet still having the same very expensive and beautifully crafted units. The power of paint at it’s finest!
