Kitchen Unit Painting York

For this kitchen painting project I headed over to Moor Monkton, York. The kitchen had been hand made a number of years ago by Jeremy Wood, and the clients were keen to update it and repair a few areas that had been damaged. They wanted their kitchen units to be hand painted in a ‘light – mid’ shade to make it look more contemporary, and give the room a lighter, brighter feel.

The final colour that was chosen was The Little Greene Company’s ‘Mushroom’, which I had expertly matched by Holmans Paints in my tried and tested specialised kitchen paint from Finland. This paint system is the best on the market and is used by many of the top kitchen and furniture companies.

The kitchen was a pleasure to do, and had been expertly made with beautiful detailing and features. As well as the actual painting of the units, I also revamped and re-sealed the chopping board and the work surfaces to make them look as good as new. During the project I suggested that I also re-stain and lacquer the plate rack rather than painting it, which would make it more of a feature and echo the colours of the wooden work tops below. The original plan had been to paint it in the same colour as the rest of the kitchen but often bespoke projects can change and evolve, and spotting the little things can make all the difference to the balance of the room and the overall design.

This was a great project to do, not only because of the appreciative clients and peaceful location, but also because it was such a great transformation. Going from dark wood to a beautiful mid tone not only updated the entire feel of the room, but also added a much needed feeling of more light and space.
