Project details - Hand Painted Pine Kitchen York

Hand Painted Pine Kitchen York

For this hand painted pine kitchen project I headed over to Moor Monkton near York. The kitchen had been hand made by Jeremy Wood’ quite a number of years ago and the clients were keen to update it and repair a few areas that had been damaged. They contacted me by email having seen my page on the fabulous ‘Traditional Painter’ website and asked if I could hand paint their kitchen in a ‘light – mid’ shade to made it look more contemporary and give the room a lighter, brighter feel. Yes I said and it will be done to the highest standards only using the best materials!

The final colour that was chosen was The Little Greene Company’s ‘Mushroom’which I had matched and mixed to an equivalent shade in my specialised kitchen paint, Empire by Tikkurila. Tikkurila paint is used by many of the top kitchen companies and for me is the best kitchen/furniture paint on the market.

The kitchen was a joy to do and had been expertly made with lovely detailing and features. As well as the actual painting of the units I also revamped and re-sealed the chopping board and the work surfaces to make them look as good as new.

During the project I suggested that I also re-stain and lacquer the plate rack rather than painting it so as to make it more of a feature and echo the colours of the wooden work tops below. The original plan had been to paint it in the same colour as the rest of the kitchen but often bespoke projects can change and evolve and spotting the little things can make all the difference to the balance of the room and the overall effect.

This was a lovely project to do not only because of the appreciative clients and peaceful location but also because it was such a great transformation. Going from dark pine to a beautiful ‘mid tone shade’ not only updated the entire feel of the room but also added a feeling of much more light and space. A great transformation and very happy clients 🙂
