Hand Painted Reclaimed Pine Kitchen – Linton On Ouse, York
For this hand painted kitchen project I travelled to a lovely little hamlet just outside Linton on Ouse near York.
This partiular kitchen had been handmade some 15 years ago using rustic reclaimed pine. Originally stained a dark brown the clients now felt that the kitchen looked dated and tired and were keen to transform it with a hand painted finish in cream or ‘off’ white. They had done lots of research online and had decided they wanted a Traditional Painter to do the work as they knew what was involved and wanted someone they could trust and who would deliver the highest quality and most durable of finishes.
To paint a reclaimed pine kitchen often means a lot of serious prep work and a lot of patience. In this particular instance the kitchen had been made and fitted in a very rustic way and would need a lot of work to make it look great. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of holes and gaps that needed careful filling and sanding – a long process that’s very different to filling normal home doors or skirting boards. There was also a lot of work done on the beading, on re-sizing the doors, on securing the panels and just making sure everything joined up properly and had clean lines.
It took over two+ weeks of prep and priming before any top coat painting was even thought about and throughout the process there was always additional filling, tweaking and adjusting to ensure the best finish was acheived.
I think you’ll agree the finished results speak for themselves and you’d never know that this kitchen was once very dark, very rustic and had hundreds of gaps and holes. The clients were over the moon with the results, with the husband saying that he ‘never knew that painting like that was possible and that the finish was like nothing he had ever seen’, a ringing endorsement from someone nearing their 80th birthday!
