Project details - Marble Effect Bathroom Walls

Painted Marble Effect Walls – The Majestic Hotel, Harrogate, Yorkshire

This marble effect paint project was commissioned by the manager of The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate. One of the top hotels in the town, The Majestic’s style and furnishings are quintessentially Victorian. Having done various projects there over the years I was again contacted when remodeling plans were afoot and some of the original marble walls were being removed to extend other areas.

To find large amounts of authentic Victorian marble would have been nigh on impossible and hugely expensive so creating a faux marble effect using paint seemed like the perfect solution. Although the job was located in the gents ‘cloakroom’ and not the most glamorous of surroundings, these are no ordinary toilets; large, decadent and wall to wall marble. My job was to create a marble paint effect for the new bathroom walls, one that perfectly complimented the real Victorian marble found in the original sections of the room. When I was putting the finishing touches to the work a gentleman came in and asked if I was polishing the marble; that made my day, the illusion had definitely worked!
