Hand Painted ‘Shabby Chic’ Chest of Drawers – Pontefract, West Yorkshire

The first three pictures are the before and after shots of a hand painted distressed furniture project I undertook in Pocklington. This was a lovely little chest of drawers, very rustically built and just destined to become distressed. I used a light grey colour and then sanded back various places to give it that ‘Shabby Chic’ look. The client was over the moon with her ‘new’ piece of furniture and now has something that will compliment most any room and be stylish for many years to come.

“We just needed to send you a big thank you for all the work you did last week. We are both thrilled to bits with the outcome and absolutely love it all. it was a pleasure to have someone as talented and professional working in our home.”

Mrs S, Ponterfact

Hand Painted ‘Shabby Chic’ Cupboard – Harrogate

The next four pics show an old school supply cupboard that hand painted and distressed as part of a complete revamp of a clients spare room, transforming it into a unique and stylish piece of distressed and antiqued furniture. The distressing was done in such a way that instead of just sanding back to the wood I first created a wax barrier. This meant that when the distressing stage came the paint came off in chips which looks much more authentic than simply sanding back to the wood. The ‘antiquing’ glaze was added to areas that would have naturally received more wear and tear and created additional detailing and depth of colour. With the furntiure painted and the wall effect done my client was over the moon again and wrote this fab review for me 🙂

“We have had work done by Lee in the past of an excellent standard, this was now the 6th area to be painted by Lee. He painted the walls in our dining room with a paint effect and then stripes on top. Lee also painted the woodwork to tie in with the walls. Now the room looks like it has the sunshine in it all the time. He has also helped me decide on the window cushion colours. Lee always has an interest in the overall effect of the room. He also to distressed and old cupboard and added a little effect to a mirror for the hall I brought to give it a new lease of life. We are really happy with the new room and the mirror. He is always happy to advise too as he helped me and the seamstress decide on the curtain material. A first class job again.”

Hand Painted ‘Shabby Chic’ Cupboard – York

The last picture shows a small cupboard I hand painted, distressed and then lightly antiqued. Originally pine, the same distressed technique mentioned above was used on this piece too so as to give it a more authentic worn and aged look.
