Kitchen Repainting Goldsborough – Case Study
This kitchen repainting project was undertaken in Goldsborough, near York. The clients wanted to update the look of their kitchen by repainting the units in a more contemporary colour.
During the consultation we looked at various colour options for the units and also for the walls, before deciding upon the ‘French Grey’ range from The Little Greene Company. The ‘French Grey’ range has light, medium and dark versions of the same tones, which is really helpful for colour matching and bringing all the different elements of a room together.
Another major consideration were the tiles, which certainly added to overall look of the kitchen feeling dated. The clients had originally planned on replacing them with new ones, though this could potentially give rise to various complications. With the tiles butting up against the splash back of the granite work surface, there was also a good chance that this area might get damaged and if that happened the chances of getting an exact replacement were tiny.
Painty solution to the rescue! I mentioned that I could just paint the tiles and that way the mess, expense and potential damage would be completely negated. At first the clients seemed skeptical that painted tiles would look good, but I assured them that I could make them look smooth and just like porcelain tiles. What’s more, we could use the mid ‘French Grey’ tone to tie everything in.
I think when many people think of painted tiles they think of public areas and pub toilets. These have invariably been poorly prepared and very badly painted. If done properly, with the time and the right materials, painted tiles can look great and are extremely durable. I go into much more detail about the process in my project Blog, but I’m happy to say that the results utterly surprised them. They were kind enough to write this lovely testimonial upon the project’s completion.
Testimonial –
‘Lee finished the job of hand-painting our solid-wood kitchen cabinets and ceramic tiles within the time frame and budget agreed. Although the time-frame and consequent disruption to our living conditions was lengthy Lee was meticulous in his preparation and the finished job was excellent. The transformation of the tiles through painting and lacquering was particularly impressive – you wouldn’t believe they are not newly glazed tiles and without the mess and hassle of replacing them. Lee is not the cheapest nor the quickest but he ensures excellent quality and value for money.’ R Martin, Goldsborough
