Faux Finishes & Faux Finish Painting
Lee is a decorative artist whose faux finish painting has been commissioned for wall and furniture projects throughout the country. With a background in fine art and a keen eye for detail, each of Lee’s faux finish commissions are uniquely hand painted and look highly realistic. His range of faux finishes effects include;
Faux Marble
Faux Wood
Faux Brick
Faux Stone
Trompe L’oeil
Faux finish painting is all about creating illusions through the imitation of natural products. When you first see a faux finish, (whether it be faux marble, faux stone or faux wood) the patina, rhythm and texture should look so real and accurate that you can’t tell it’s been painted.
Faux finishes really can transform rooms and furniture and offer a great practical solution where a natural product might be too expensive or difficult to install. A quality faux finish will look authentic and play with the senses and Lee prides himself on being able to imitate specific types of marble, stone and wood upon request. Popular faux painting projects include making plain walls look like stone, making wood fire surrounds look like marble and making mdf look like oak.
Lee works throughout Yorkshire and the UK and is within easy reach for projects in Leeds, York, Halifax, Wetherby, Ripon and the surrounding areas.

Faux Marble Painting | Marble Paint Effects
Faux marble or marble effect painting is perhaps the most decadent and luxurious of all the faux finishes and definitely one of the most popular. A highly realistic hand painted marble effect is really rather special, often being seen as a piece of artwork unto itself. Used extensively throughout Roman and Victorian times, specialist faux painters were seen as true artisans, passing their knowledge and skills down from generation to generation.
Being able to mimic real products with nothing more than paint is hugely rewarding and something Lee truely loves to do. From Sienna marble to Vert de Mer, Lee has been commissioned in private homes, hotels, businesses and listed buildings throughout the UK – offering a practical ‘painty’ solution to logistically difficult areas.
Over nearly 20 years of faux painting Lee has created marble paint effects on a variety of areas including fire surrounds, walls, table tops, pillars, archways and roll top baths.
Faux Wood | Faux Wood Painting
Faux wood effects or ‘wood graining’ is another faux finish Lee specialises in, offering a painted faux wood effect that is indistinguishable from the real thing. Whether you are looking to create the illusion of real oak, real mahogany, burr walnut or pine, Lee prides himself on being able to create a realistic looking faux wood finish that will fool anybody.
“Someone once came up to me whilst I was photographing a faux wood bureau I’d painted and asked me if I’d built it – made my day!”
Faux Stone & Faux Brick Paint Effects
Hand painted faux stone and faux brick are wonderful effects that can be used to great effect in many different ways. A painted stone effect done in subtly muted shades, can create a faux stone effect that offers the perfect backdrop for a grand hall or entrance way. Highly realistic illusions can also be created for a dramatic feature wall, whilst ordinary plaster or wood can be transformed to look like real granite or sandstone.
Over the years Lee has undertaken numerous faux stone and faux brick effect commissions, expertly producing such finishes as sandstone, York stone, limestone, granite and aged brick work on walls, table tops, banisters, columns, fire surrounds and the outsides of buildings.
Trompe L'oeil
Trompe l’oeil is a French term that literally means ‘deceiving the eye’ and is an art form that goes back thousands of years. Trompe l’oeil is an incredible effect that allows an artist to remove the constraints of a room and delve into a world where three dimensional scenes or objects can be created on 2D surfaces. It’s painty trickery at its best!
The possibilities are nearly limitless and for nearly 20 years Lee has had enormous fun tinkering with the perceived boundaries of a room and painting extremely realistic illusions. Trompe l’oeil murals and trompe l’oeil paintings are not only fantastic to look at but are a great way to introduce visual trickery into your home. Not only can you fool your friends and family with something that is ‘there but not there’, but also you can enjoy a unique and bespoke piece of art that’s truely personal to you.
