"A true professional! Lee was a pleasure to work with from our very first meeting. His input into the refurbishment of our kitchen was invaluable. Although we had to wait for Lee’s services it was well worth it. His attention to detail is second to none and the pleasure he gets from doing a first-class job is evident from the minute he arrived to the day he sadly left. His methodical, organised and very tidy way of working was so re-assuring. I cannot praise his work highly enough and still smile every morning when I walk into the newly decorated kitchen. Thanks Lee."

Client Testimonials
Is It Worth Painting My Kitchen and is it Cost Effective?
Having an existing kitchen painted has many advantages over getting a replacement kitchen. If your current kitchen is in good condition and the layout works well for you, then having it professionally painted is a great solution and will save you thousands.
Aside from the cost difference, getting your kitchen painted mainly involves just one or two people, and in most cases, your kitchen can still be used for the evening meal. With a new installation there will be numerous tradesmen, a lot of logistics and much more disruption.
When weighing up the cost of a new kitchen against having it painted, be mindful that there is often the need for new worktops, new tiles, decorating and possibly even a new floor as well. Getting your cabinets hand painted will transform the look of your kitchen and increase the value of your house, all without the huge price tag and lengthy disruption.
What exactly is a hand painted kitchen?
Hand painting a kitchen is the bespoke and premium finish of choice. Using brushes and rollers, high end hand painting offers a beautiful natural appearance that feels tactile to the touch and hugs the contours of the doors. It does not look mass produced.
It’s a misconception that hand painting a kitchen means it will have lots of brush marks.
A quality hand painted finish will create a surface that’s smooth and even, will few or no visible brush marks at all. This is where the skill, patience and experience come in to play, it’s a specialist job with unique skill set.
Spraying vs Hand Painting
A hand painted finish looks more natural, not synthetic or ‘plasticy’.
A spray finish looks mass produced and uses two or three times the amount of paint.
A hand painted finish is less brittle, more durable and doesn’t chip as easily. It can also be easily repaired and repainted if an area is scuffed or chipped.
A spray finish cannot be touched up if scratched or chipped and will chip more easily.
Hand painting allows for an even and uniform coverage that hugs the contours of the doors and drawers, so that no definition is lost.
With spray finishes it can be hard to get even coverage, which can lead to loss of detail, poor adhesion, cracking, and sagging.
Hand painting allows for excellent control and a higher level of detail. Brushwork can follow the natural grain and enhance the detail of the cabinetry. It is also much more environmentally friendly, with no spray residue and unhealthy fumes created by aerosolized paint.
Spray painting has a very long preparation and clean up time. Every inch of the room that isn’t being painted needs to be masked off with plastic sheeting. Much more waste and mess.

Kitchen painting is widely regarded as the most difficult household painting there is and the benefits of using an experienced specialist kitchen painter cannot be understated.
Having your kitchen upgraded is a major decision, and at Imaginative Interiors we pride ourselves on our customer service; working closely with clients and helping with colour choice, to ensure a beautiful transformation with the minimum of disruption. With Imaginative Interiors your painting transformation is in safe hands.
Are the paints you use Eco Friendly?
The topcoat paint Lee uses is one of the most eco-friendly modern paints on the market, and years ahead of many UK paints. It has a very low VOC content (Volatile Organic Compounds – the nasty stuff) and has been classified Group M1 in the Emission Classification. It provides excellent adhesion, hardness, resistance to UV rays and retains its colour and sheen over time.
The primer Lee uses is oil based, so not so environmentally friendly, but it’s the best available for this type of painting, is super high adhesion, has high build and is easily sandable. The perfect basecoat for preparing kitchen cabinets.
Colours and Paints
A hand painted kitchen comes with many great advantages, one of which is the choice of colours you can have. The paints Lee uses can be accurately tinted to virtually any colour, including those from household favourites Farrow & Ball and The Little Greene Company. If you have a particular colour in mind, Lee can get it accurately colour matched for you.
The paint system he uses is tried and tested and uses some of the worlds most advanced eco-friendly products. From high adhesion primers to highly durable alkyd-based topcoats, these products are the market leaders and used by many of the top kitchen manufacturers.
What kitchens can be painted?
Most common materials used to make a kitchen can be hand painted, it’s all about knowing the right products, materials, and techniques. Whether your kitchen is solid wood, laminate, already painted, mdf, lacquered, varnished or foil wrapped, Lee can paint nearly all surfaces and extend the life of your kitchen without compromising the integrity of the cabinetry and design.
Please note that Lee no longer paints ‘standard’ pine kitchens, only machined pine. If in doubt email Lee a photograph and he will soon be able to tell you. E: lee@imaginativeinteriors.co.uk.
The Process · Joinery · Protecting Your Surfaces
With older or bespoke kitchens, Lee will first check all doors and drawers to make sure they hang and open correctly. Lee works closely with an experienced cabinet maker who can make any adjustments needed, like plaining edges, tweaking hinges and drilling new handle holes if necessary.
He will then remove the doors and drawers and prepare and paint them in his workrooms.
Having off-site workrooms is a real bonus for clients as it minimises my time on-site. Lee then only needs to be in your kitchen to paint the shell (plinths, sides, kick boards, cornices, inside lips etc), tidy up and re-hang the doors and drawers.
Before any painting is done on-site, Lee thoroughly masks off and protect the work tops, floor, appliances, and any other key areas.
Lee has written many Blogs outlining the process, and you can rest assured that the service Lee offers involves meticulous preparation, quality products, an advanced paint system and a pride in his work that ensures every stage is done to the highest standard.
What areas do you cover?
Lee covers most of Yorkshire for kitchen and furniture painting and, depending on the project, may travel further afield for mural and faux finish work.
The main areas Lee covers are Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby, Leeds, Otley, Ilkley, York, Skipton, The Yorkshire Dales, Pontefract, Wakefield, Halifax, and all the surround areas.
